5 Signs You're Ready To Go Back To College

By Katherine Gardner on August 6, 2016

1. You Can’t Wait To Live Parent-Free Once Again

Regardless of whether you love them or hate them, moving back in with your parents over summer, after being away at college all year is a hard adjustment to make. One second you’re up in Tallahassee living life on your own watch, taking naps when you want, going out with friends at eleven, eating spaghetti at three in the morning. Who cares? You’re in college. The next second you’re back home and your parents are questioning your every move, old chores you had forgotten about have been reinstated, you’re forced to regress back into the life of a pre-college student. Let the struggle for independence and your yearning for parent-free living begin!

2. You’ve Exhausted Every Fun Activity Your Hometown Has To Offer

There probably aren’t many, and chances are if you’ve done it once you’ve done it a million times. Even activities that at one point you thought could bring endless entertainment begin to falter. As the weeks pass by the TV shows that were saved in your Netflix queue begin to run out. The new season of Orange Is The New Black was finished the same day it was released for goodness sakes.  Sure, Pokemon GO is fun and exciting, but if you live in a small town chances are your Pokedex is riddled with a bunch of boring old Pidgeys and Rattatas. Fall semester needs to get here already so the exploration of Tallahassee Pokemon hotspots can commence.

3. You Start To Miss The Food

Your hometown may have the necessities (Chipotle, Panera Bread, Chick-Fil-a, etc.), but one thing you’re sure to miss over summer break are the restaurants that pop up exclusively in college towns like Blaze Pizza, TacoSpeak, BurgerFi, and Zoe’s Kitchen — all places I had never even heard of previous to attending Florida State University but now find it very hard to live without. Not to mention the classic restaurants that are exclusive only to Tallahassee like Madison Social, MoMo’s Pizza, Midtown Caboose, and The Bada Bean. Coming from a person who only knows how to make three very boring meals, these restaurants are incredibly missed.

4. You Really Miss Your Colleges Buddies

Going from spending hours with your roommates and/or new friends that you’ve made in college on a daily basis to not seeing them for months on end is not a fun separation to deal with when summer rolls around. Cyberstalking your college-bestie on social media can’t compare to the late night dance parties that used to take place or the all-day 90210 marathons that were held in your living room on the weekend. By the end of summer (or most-likely a week or two into summer) you really start to miss hanging out with your college buddies and then it seems like fall semester can’t start fast enough.

5. You Miss The Tallahassee Night Life

Okay, maybe you don’t miss The Strip, but even The Strip sounds promising when you’re spending your summer in a town where ten at night is closer to bedtime than pre-game time. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely nice to take a quick break and give your liver some time to recover from your spring semester escapades, but all summer is far too long of a break. This is when you start to realize how convenient it is to live in a college town for the majority of the year, where every bar or club is five minutes away, Uber rides are short and sweet, and no matter how risqué you decide to dress your fellow college students tend to be judgement free. Yea, The Strip sounds pretty good right about now.
