Last week, Campus DJ hit One12Courtland with an exciting (and free) event featuring Atlanta’s top collegiate DJs plus special guest judges. The venue was filled with energy as college students across the country expanded their DJ presence from a campus-wide scale to a national audience.

CAMPVS (an entertainment company that scouts student talent on college campuses) along with One12Courtland presented the evening at One12Courtland’s rooftop pool. The night consisted of performances by college students plus giveaways and prizes from places like Monster Energy, UltimateEars, Chegg and Chipotle (an entire week of free Chipotle food was given to a Campus DJ attendee). One12Courtland is located right next to Georgia State University as a space for college students to find housing and enjoy events within a short radius of their campus.

CampusDJ is “the only collegiate search for the top college DJs and music producers in the country.” The team travels to various college campuses to host competitions involving the university’s best undergraduate producers and DJs. The competitions allow college DJs an exciting venue through which they can show off their talent to one another and work to advance onto more DJ showdowns around the U.S.

To enter into the competition, DJs are required to create a profile on Campus DJ and submit the mix that best showcases their “spinning skills.” Afterwards, the collegiate DJs promote their participation in the competition through word of mouth and social media outlets leading up to the event.

Missed the show? Here are some of the DJs that rocked the event:

Mikes Revenge

Mikes Revenge consists of  two trap producers and DJs out of Atlanta. They have played many prominent venues that have allowed them to gather support from other big-name Atlanta musicians. Check out Mikes Revenge on SoundCloud here to listen to their mixes.

Drag and Drop

This DJ team consists of two Puerto Rican brothers, Julian and Orlando, who have been producing electronic music since 2011. Joining as Drag & Drop, the two have performed in PR and Atlanta, and the duo took 2nd place at the Atlanta Campus DJ event.

DJ Slic

“Mixing and spinning since the age of 14, Slic got his start blowing the minds of his audience at house parties and is now one of ATL’s hottest underground DJs,” as written on Campus DJ’s Facebook event for the show.

Currently, Slic is a big name in Atlanta’s underground bass scene. He began his career when he developed a unique, never-before-done style that became more and more refined over time. Slic’s influences include DJ AM, AC Slater, and Tchami, all of which have helped the DJ find his place in the spotlight.

“Blending House, Garage, UK Bass, and a variety of other styles to produce an experience like no other,” DJ Slic is a can’t-miss artist.

Elephunkadelic

Elephunkadelic has been DJing and producing music for three years and has played opening acts for talent such as Project Pat, Moon Taxi and John Mellencamp. At this year’s previous Campus DJ event held in Alabama, Elephunkadelic was named the first-place winner and crowned the University of Alabama Campus DJ Champion. This win provided them the opportunity to compete in Atlanta’s Campus DJ event shortly after.

DJDK

Clemson University senior DJDK (DJ Dillon Kelly) is currently working on a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Production Studies in the Performing Arts with an emphasis in Audio Technology/Audio Engineering, set to graduate in spring of 2016. He has been DJing for the past seven years.

DJDK says that art and music is most meaningful to him because of its ability to communicate emotions and beliefs.

On his website, DJDK writes the following explanation for his love of musicianship:

“For me personally, creating music with meaning can truly speak in ways that I cannot. This is why I have devoted my studies to learning the methods of creating and recording music; for where my words may fail to express what I am feeling, music speaks much louder … So, I challenge you to ask yourself what pressures you to pursue your dreams in life, and if these dreams are worth sacrificing the consolation in working solely for monetary wealth.”

DJ Mide of Georgia State University also competed at the Atlanta Campus DJ event. With the phrase “18 with a whole lot of dreams” written on his Campus DJ profile, it’s no doubt DJ Mide satisfied one of those dreams by performing in the competition.

The Campus DJ events are just what student music makers need to gain exposure and experience as well as have a great time sharing their passion with groups of fellow undergraduates. For many students, music is the most effective outlet for expression. These young DJs can serve as inspiration for all of us to do what we love and take it onto a large scale to share it with others.
